Editorial Letter: Overview of submitted piece with broad suggestions – good for early structural, POV, character development, pacing, and plot changes.
Developmental Editing: Editorial Letter + comments and annotations throughout the document. This includes tracked changes and suggestions on word choice, grammar and punctuation, fact-checking, voice, plot consistencies, and other details.
Copy Editing: After a revision based on developmental editing, copy editing looks for misspellings, formatting issues, grammar and punctuation, character consistencies, and date/time/location accuracy.
Proofreading: Final review – quick read-through for typos, formatting issues, misspellings, and any other last minute details.
